After Nick sadly lost his Mum to pulmonary fibrosis in 2015, he connected with Peter Bryce and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Trust in 2017. As a way to honour her spirit and raise awareness of pulmonary fibrosis, Nick decided to run 5400km across the United States of America in May 2017.

Tragically Nick was deliberately hit at 50mph by a pickup truck on US Highway 40. The driver did not stop and left him in a ditch with horrific injuries to his legs and pelvis as well as internal injuries. This halted Nick’s mission to run across America and left him in the hospital learning to walk again for the next four months.

It took sixteen surgeries, three years of physiotherapy and gym work in order for Nick to be back to running again. In September 2021, Nick ran his longest race in 5 years, a 156km run in 19 hours and 15 minutes.

Nick’s passion for running and raising awareness of pulmonary fibrosis is still ongoing, and he will be returning to the United States ito start his run across America on 28th May 2022.
